Holden Update

I'm rekindling this blog to follow my own progress (or lack thereof) - but some updates need to happen.

Our 2016 season ended on a good note -- almost -- we went to a show! We finished on our dressage score. Granted, it was elementary, but it was great to get out and showing again.

Holden & I, August 2016

Late October 2016, Holden had a catastrophic paddock incident that required lots of layup. He broke his pelvis, his ribs, and had two major puncture wounds -- one on his shoulder, and one that had a rock in it right below his point of hip and less than 2cm from his cecum! We assume he fell while playing.

The damage: 2 mm Chip fragments on tubercoxi (Point of Hip)
Large hematoma within tensor fascialatae muscle
Hairline fracture on caudal rib T17
Step abnormality in acetabulum
The first two weeks were so touch and go - we couldn't even get him on a trailer: he had a high fever, major hematoma in his hips, and couldn't even walk.  The vet came every day, 2x a day for the first week, and then every day for 2 weeks, to give him IV Baytril & pain meds.

Horses.

Lots of time off, many vet visits, and he is ok!

Oh, and we got a new pony.. A foal, to be exact. Seen here with the very enamored boy gang.
